IRISi welcomes the introduction of NHS England’s Sexual Misconduct Policy and Framework, an essential step in addressing the safety and well-being of NHS staff. With a trauma-informed, survivor-centred approach, this framework is timely, given the urgent need highlighted by recent news reports and research revealing the scale of the problem for those working in the NHS. The demand for robust support will significantly increase as more individuals come forward.
It’s crucial to recognise the role of the specialist domestic abuse sector, which has long provided expert care. As awareness grows, so will the need for these services, making sustainable funding indispensable. Without it, third-sector organisations may struggle to meet the rising demand, potentially leaving those affected without adequate support.
As pioneers in integrating domestic abuse support into healthcare, IRISi is ready to collaborate with NHS England and other key partners to ensure this policy is implemented effectively. We aim to help maintain safe healthcare environments for staff and patients and ensure survivors receive the support they need.
